If you’d told me years ago that I’d be writing books about faith, spirituality, and personal growth, I would’ve scoffed. This kid had his sights set on Hollywood – “Screenplay by David Lundgren” was the dream. And if you’d told me my spiritual journey would lead me beyond the evangelical world I was immersed in? Well, that certainly wasn’t part of the script, either. Yet, here we are.
For years, faith provided a framework, a sense of certainty. But over time, that certainty started to slip. The pieces no longer fit the way they once had, and I couldn’t ignore the tension. So I did the only thing that made sense—I dove headfirst into study, devouring anything I could get my hands on in a desperate attempt to make sense of it all. And before I knew it, I was grasping for stability as my entire foundation crumbled, unsure if anything would be left standing.
That season wasn’t easy—things like that never are—but it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened. Not just because my friends insist I earned an honorary degree in theology along the way, but because as things fell apart, they made space for something more life-giving. Of course, the road from there to here wasn’t exactly smooth. Some wounds took time to heal, some lessons came with a cost, and some scars still catch the light in unexpected ways.
More than that, the process of questioning, unlearning, and rebuilding taught me to hold things more openly—something that helped prepare me for the unexpected twists ahead (you know, like officiating my ex-wife’s wedding, which, in case you were wondering, definitely wasn’t on my bingo card). Life has a way of surprising us, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that the real magic often happens in the unfolding.

Today, my writing is an extension of that journey (after all, they say write what you know). I believe spirituality should foster wonder and expand us rather than box us in, and I’m committed to showing up accordingly. I hope my books can help others navigate their own evolving spiritual paths with curiosity, depth, and a willingness to embrace mystery. So if you’ve ever found yourself questioning what you once believed or wondering if there’s something bigger beyond the old narratives, you’re in good company.
If you feel a twinge of hesitation when you see that several of my upcoming books have ties to Christianity, I get it. But if you’re up for it, stick around—I won’t be swimming in those waters all the time. And hey, my screenwriting dreams are still alive too. So who knows, maybe one day you’ll be among the first to hear that my name is finally coming to the big (or little) screen.
